Hutcheson Ferry Park
Hutcheson Ferry Park attracts those seeking the solitude of
nature, as well as those seeking a sense of community. The photos
below show the number of ways residents and visitors enjoy the park.

A Welcome Sign |
 |
|
The welcome sign at Hutcheson Ferry Park gives testimony to
the early conservation vision established by the
Chattahoochee Hill Country Alliance.
Through their work with
the Conservation Fund, land owner, and Fulton County, the
property was saved from becoming a subdivision and turned
into a park.
This
significant "save" underscores the importance of
conservation, sustainable development, and partners working
together toward a common goal.

A
Floodplain Forest |
|
Hutcheson Ferry Park offers
educational opportunities, giving students of nature an
opportunity to experience a 'Sense
of Place.'
Thru a series of workshops
hosted by the
Hill Country Montessori School,
students tried their hand at floodplain forest tree
identification.
The most noteworthy
vegetation was a healthy stand of Microstigium viminium,
also called Japanese stilt-grass, an invasive plant that
tends to choke out all the native vegetation. |

A British
Solider |
 |
|
Hidden within a rock outcrop habitat, nature students
discovered a tree branch covered in lichen and fungi.
One student identified a "battalion" of red-headed British
soldier lichen apothecia (fruiting bodies), which he
recalled seeing on a neighbor's fence post when he was a
kid.
Hutcheson Ferry Park is filled with these, and many other,
natural wonders. |

An
Annual Tradition |
|
The annual Atlanta Symphony Orchestra concert has become a summer
tradition at Hutcheson Ferry Park.
Through the generosity of
the Chattahoochee Hill Country Alliance and its many
sponsors, the community enjoys this free concert performed
by Atlanta's world-class orchestra.
The large open filed at
Hutcheson Ferry Park provides the perfect setting for an
evening of music under the stars. |

A
Reason to Huddle & Cuddle |
 |
|
Even when it rains during a community function, folks love
to stay at Hutcheson Ferry Park.
When showers visited during
the 2008 ASO Concert last July, friends and family took
advantage of the opportunity to huddle and cuddle.
There's something about
enjoying a summer shower with a few of your neighbors,
especially when your together at Hutcheson Ferry Park.

A
Winning Combination |
|
Bluegrass Music, arts & crafts, neighborhood exhibits
and great food all add up to a winning combination during
fall festivals at the park.
Add a tractor, a "flatbed", a couple of bales of hay, and
laughing children for a special fall treat -- an old
fashioned hay ride.
Like Atlanta's Chastain Park, Chattahoochee Hills' Hutcheson
Ferry Park has become the place to go for festivals,
celebrations, and community events. |

A
Future Trailhead |
 |
|
Imagine...a series of scenic greenways that preserve our
region's forested character and provide opportunities for
families to enjoy nature together.
Through the dedication of
The Path Foundation, the
CHC Alliance, and partners in four counties, plans for the
four-county
Chattahoochee Hill County Regional
Greenway Trail are underway.
Hutcheson Ferry Park is the planned site of the trailhead in
Chattahoochee Hills. |
