Cochran Mill Park
Cochran Mill Park is a favorite among residents in Chattahoochee
Hills and visitors throughout Georgia. The photos below represent a
few of the diverse activities enjoyed at the Park.

A Welcome Sign |
 |
|
The welcome sign at Cochran Mill Park is a lot like the park
itself -- understated and unassuming.
To the hurried commuter who zips by on the way to work, the
sign is but a landmark, one that says "Slow down, the
Parkway is coming up."
But to the locals and visitors who have ventured inside the
park, the sign is a reminder of the rustic beauty and
simplicity that beckons, "Enter and enjoy." |

A Ride Through Nature |
|
With miles of wilderness trails along diverse terrain,
Cochran Mill Park is an equestrian's dream.
A gravel road leads down to the open meadow from the parking
lot. The trail meanders through the flat marshlands then crosses Bear Creek,
with options to ride along the creek bed or experience a
more hilly route.
For those with the stamina for the longest ride, a
magnificent waterfall awaits at the park's boundary. |
|
A Field
Day |
 |
|
The large open field at Cochran Mill Park provides an ideal
training location for Field Day, an amateur radio three-day
contest.
Members from the South Fulton ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency
Service) set up camp with a variety of communication
stations to simulate emergency communication conditions.
Then over three days, they attempt to make contacts all over
the world. |

A
Fantasy Game |
|
Once upon a time, in a time
(not so) long, long ago... there was a troupe of ancient
warriors on a quest to fulfill a fantasy.
At Cochran Mill Park, you
never know what to expect as you turn a corner or round a
bend in the trail.
Here on a midsummer's eve,
a group of costumed adults play a fantasy game, in search
for a dragon or a pot of gold. |

An
Orienteering Event |
 |
|
Map, Compass, Thrills! The
Georgia
Orienteering Club has hosted orienteering events at
Cochran Mill Park since 1996.
This environmentally
friendly, low impact sport allows competitors to test their
navigational skills by using a specialized topographical map
and compass to navigate a course in the woods.
A favorite event is the
annual night orienteering meet, held at Cochran Mill Park in
the fall. |

A
Camping Experience |
|
Pass the s'mores. Cochran Mill Park offers primitive camping
and star-filled nights, the perfect combination to introduce
children to a wilderness experience.
During the day, families may enjoy the many hiking trails
throughout the Park that pass by the old mill sites, natural
habitats, granite outcroppings and waterfalls.
At
night, the peepers, crickets, and cicadas join in
concert, performing their rhythmic songs. |

A
Natural Pool |
 |
|
It
wouldn't be summer in Chattahoochee Hills without a cool dip
in the old mill pond at Cochran Mill Park.
Located on the east side of the park, the natural pool
formed by a small waterfall at the location of the old mill
is what some would call an "old fashioned swimming hole."
Future improvements to this portion of the Park might
include repairs to the gravel road, bridge, and picnic
areas. |
